Venice III...
...by
Marios Christodoulides
The design for this extension to an
existing house is comprized of three
distinct elements. A rectilinear volume
contains the work area on the ground
level and the bedroom above. The second
element, a long thin piece running along
the northern edge of the first, contains
a library on the first floor and a dressing
room on the second. The third element,
which has three parts, incorporates a
skylight over a two story volume, and
a small rear building that contains a
kitchen, a bathroom, and a deck.
The three elements are clearly artiqulated
within the overall compositon, both through
the use of different material veneers, and
their geometric manipulations. The unique
configuration of this addition allows it
to operate both as an extension to the
existing house, and also as a separate
area that can be rented or sold.
