Demo 4
The following example combines two images together and creates a shadow
using layer masks and layer styles. |
 |
1 |
Open both marble.jpg and column.jpg in Photoshop. |
 |
2 |
In marble.jpg, double-click on the background layer and rename
the layer to "marble". |
 |
3 |
Next create a new layer in marble.jpg that is completely
white. In the layer palette, click on the little triangle in the upper right-hand
corner and select New Layer.... Name the new layer "white" and
move the white layer so that it is below the marble layer in the layer palette
stack. |
 |
4 |
Select the marble layer and add a layer mask by clicking
on the squared icon next to the trash can at the bottom of the layer palette.
Alternatively, you can use the menu,
Layer > Add Layer Mask > Reveal All
Alt-Click (click with Alt key down) on the layer mask to make it
viewable in the main screen. |
 |
5 |
In column.jpg, select the entire image (Ctrl-A) and copy
it (Ctrl-C). Then paste (Ctrl-V) it into the layer mask of marble.jpg. After
pasting, invert the image (Ctrl-I).
Click on the marble icon in the layer palette to see the effects of the
layer mask. You should see a column shape filled with marble pattern. |
 |
6 |
To create a drop shadow, double-click on the marble to
bring up the layer style options. Check Drop Shadow. Set the angle to
135, distance to 5, size to 7, and click OK. |
