Lightscape 3.2 tutorial

Preparing your model

To start the tutorial, you need to download ls_tutorial.dwg (file format is DWG AutoCAD 2000)

244 kb - (right-click and save target as...)

Open the file and save it with a different name because this will be a file just for lightscape. We will erase and change a few things so it's important you keep the original.

Cleaning your model

  1. Delete everything on layer 'aux', and delete that layer too.

Fixing intersections and separating surfaces

  1. Union everything together (all your objects should be solids)
  2. You should have one single object on one layer. Delete all other layers and create new layers for:
    • columns
    • walls
    • floor
    • ceiling
    • openings
  3. Explode that big solid chunk
  4. Select carefully the surfaces that form the walls and put them in the 'walls' layer and repeat this step with the columns, the celing and the floor. The side faces of the windows should go into the 'walls' layer, and the stair into the 'floor' layer.

Blocks

  1. Isolate the 'columns' layer.
  2. Erase all the columns except one (any).
  3. Create a block:
    • Name: column
    • Insertion point: a corner on the base
    • Elements: the four surfaces for that column

4. Turn on the floor layer and insert the column multiple times.

Create Openings

  1. Isolate the 'walls' and 'openings' layers. Make the 'openings' layer your current layer.
  2. Using the '3dface' command, create a surface for capping one of those openings as shown in the graphic. Note that the surface is placed on the exterior side of the hole.
  3. Repeat with all the openings.
Turn all your layers on and save your file.
